You will not regret making these savory, delicious and cheesy tiropita cookies. Tiropita in Greek, means cheese pie. Cheese pie takes a lot more time and involves phyllo pastry. Here we knock out the recipe with basic staple ingredients in a flash! They literally take 20 minutes to make, from start to finish! Talk about last minute and delicious appetizer!

Please note that if you don’t have self rising flour that is not a problem! Use this instead:  1 cup flour of choice with 1 tsp baking powder, 1/4 tsp baking soda and 1/2 tsp salt. This recipe makes 13 yummy medium-sized cookies!

Tiropita Cookies (Greek Cheese Cookies)

These fluffy little bites are a quick alternative to our favorite tiropita; Greek cheese pie. They come together in 5 minutes and are sure to be a winner at your next party!

Ingredients 

  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 4 tbs olive oil (or melted butter)
  • 1/4 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 tsp lemon zest
  • 1/8 tsp dried mint
  • salt + pepper, to taste
  • 5 oz feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella
  • 1 cup self rising flour*
  • optional: toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350℉. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the egg, oil and yogurt until smooth. Add in the lemon zest, mint, salt, pepper, feta, mozzarella and mix to combine. Next SIFT in the flour and mix in to combine. Mixture will look dry but keep mixing to incorporate everything, you can use your hands if necessary. Form balls and press down slightly. Sprinkle tops with sesame seeds. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown on top.
