Healthier Orange Almond Flour Muffins (Gluten Free)
These light and fluffy muffins are bursting with good flavors. We really enjoyed the orange zest and almond extract in these little treats. This healthier recipe comes together quickly in just one bowl and under 30 minutes. You’re going to love these gluten free muffins!
There are so many substitution options for these. You can use any liquid sweetener here like honey or agave. You can use an neutral oil, like coconut oil, avocado oil or melted butter. And you can use any gluten free flour, like gluten free all purpose flour. Also you can use sour cream instead of Greek yogurt if you prefer.
If you like this recipe, you will love my Whole Orange Blender Cake, my Healthy Orange Carrot Cake or my Cranberry Orange Loaf. All of these are super delicious!
The muffins are NOT overly sweet. I like to serve with a drizzle of honey or some apricot or strawberry preserves. Also recommended is the sprinkle of powdered sugar on the tops – once they have cooled.

These sound really good! I don’t have almond flour. Would all oat flour work?
Thanks,
Erika
HI Erika, it should work just fine. Just decreaase the amount a bit.
I love these muffins. I put jam inside to add some sweetness & they turned out great. everyone loved them 12 muffins disappeared faster than it took to bake them.
Hello! lol I’m so glad they were a hit! Thank you for coming back to rate and review the recipe!
Can this be made with lemon zest instead?
Hi Patricia, absolutely! Its mentioned in the blog post too! Go ahead and use lemon zest and enjoy!
Just made these this morning and – oh my heavens. These are a keeper and I’ll be making them again. It means a lot to find recipes that are both gluten and sugar free. Great way to start my day. Wish I could post my pictures which show how light these are with a great crumb. Made the recipe exactly as written. 1/2 tsp almond extract.
I’m so glad you tried them and love em! Thank you for the kind feedback! Cheers!
could you sub more almond flour or all purpose flour (not gluten free) for the oat flour and have them still turn out?
Hi Dejah, yes you can definiteley make this with all 4 cups almond flour. I would just add in one more egg to make sure everything stays together!
4 cups of of these dense flours? Instead use 1-3/4 white whole-wheat flour and cut back on the yogurt and maple syrup by 1/4.
The point of the original recipe is GLUTEN FREE.
hi I would like to know if you can freeze these muffins.
HI Maria, yes you can!
interesting good what is orange zest?
HI Mabel, Orange zest is the colorful, outermost layer of the orange peel. Use a microplane or box grater to zest the fruit peel.
