Healthy Chocolate Truffles
These easy to make creamy delicious chocolate truffles will have you coming back for more!
We could not stop eating these creamy chocolatey truffles. They are made with only a few healthy ingredients and come together quickly in your mini food processor.
All you need is cottage cheese, I use full fat, cacao powder, or cocoa powder, and a liquid sweetener like maple syrup or honey to make these delicious little treats. My favorite part is the creamy center and the salt to offset for the sweetness.

Healthy Chocolate Truffles
Equipment
Ingredients
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 3 tbs maple syrup (or honey)
- 3/4 cup cacao powder
Chocolate Coating:
- 3/4 cup chocolate chips
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- flaky sea salt
Instructions
- Add your cottage cheese to a mini food processor and pulse until smooth. Then add in maple syrup and cacao powder and pulse until smooth, taking care to stop and scrape down the sides when needed. Taste and adjust sweetnees if you need to. Transfer mixture to a container, smooth out and cover and refrigerate for 4 hour or overnight.
- Using a scooper, measure out about 2 teaspoons and form into a ball and place on a parchment lined plate. Repeat and then transfer to your freezer for 30 minutes – 1 hour.
- Melt the chocolate chips and coconut oil over low heat in a small pot. Stir constantly to avoid burning. Once melted and smooth, transfer the melted chocolate to a small bowl. Working quickly, dip the balls one at a time into the chocolate and then place back onto the parchment lined plate. Repeat. Once done, sprinkle on some flaky salt and transfer to your fridge to set for 10 minutes.
Notes
Store leftovers in fridge.

Hi Stella, have you tried making these with Greek yogurt as a substitute for the cottage cheese? Thanks!
Hi Patrick, I haven’t tried it but it shouuld work! I would do 5% Greek Yogurt
Hi Stella, Vey nice and easy recipe! Can i ask if we put some oats in it maybe would make the mixture more thick and no as running?
Hi Eftychia, You can try that idea… it shoudl work! Thank you for the kind rating too! Filakia!
Can you replace the coconut oil or possibly leave it out?’
Hi Lise, I use olive oil in its place… you can try leaving it out too.. i haven’t but it should work!
Help! My cottage cheese mixture is not setting up. it like thick pancake batter and I have refrigerated it over night.what should I do?🙏
my mixture has been sitting in the fridge for about 8 hours and it is runny? Did I blend it too l9ng? what can I add to thicken it?
I made these with 2% cottage cheese, Breakstone to be exact and they just didn’t come out right they were much too soft let alone being able to put into a hot chocolate dip. Don’t think I’ll try it again. It was very messy to make it. taste was fine, but the aggravation wasn’t worth it.
Hi Stella,
Thankyou for your reply. I have now made these delicious truffles but I think I made a mistake. I used a well known make of creme cheese instead of cottage cheese and the ball are very soft/ runny so it was a struggle to get the melted chocolate on before they started to melt ! Do you think my problem was caused by the substitution of cream cheese for cottage cheese ?. Btw they taste delicious but look awful! Greetings, Frankie
Yes. Changing a vital ingredient changes everything. If you prefer cream cheese to cottage cheese, find a recipe that uses cream cheese.
Hi, Would it work to roll the truffles in icing sugar instead of dipping in melted chocolate. They sound delicious
Hi Frankie, it might work but the chocolate shell kind of keeps them together better. Maybe freeze them for a few hours and then coat in the powdered sugar!
These are decadent and chocolatey! My whole family loves them. I should have made a double batch!
That’s amazing! Glad you and the whole family enjoyed!
Creamy and satisfying! I used more chocolate chips then called for. I stored mine in the freezer so they wouldn’t melt as fast when taken out to eat. The insides would make a fine dessert all its own!
Hi Merle, exactly! thank you so much for trying them out! I really appreciate the kind feedback!
Took 5 min to make 1st step & from what I can tell they’re delicious – can’t wait to roll them & coat in chocolate tomorrow! Trying to think of a way to up the protein even more – may try adding protein powder next time & just drizzle the chocolate instead & save a calorie or two!
Hi D! I hope you like the end product! Thank you for giving the recipe a try! Cheers!
