Greek Cabbage Salad (Lahano Salata)
This easy lahano salata is my go-to for meal prep – it only gets better with time!
This salad is the best crunchy salad to make a day in advance and just let it sit in the fridge overnight. It literally takes 15 minutes to slice and chop everything and the dressing only has a few ingredients to whisk together. You can sub in lemon for the vinegar if you prefer that flavor.

Great salad …will make again
This is definitely one of our favorite salads at our house! The next day we take what’s left over to school/work. Double the joy! Greetings from The Netherlands!
SO unique and SO good. I’ve never had anything like it. I made in the morning for dinner (which is just great) and it tasted even better by dinner. I only did about half a cabbage and liked that ratio.
I had it for lunch today and it held up great overnight.
Will definitely make this again. Thanks for the recipe xo.
This salad is unique, simple & really delicious! Love your recipes!
This was my go-to salad recipe for the summer, and I’m still making it! I’ve made it for family meals, parties and for friends.. everyone loves it! The salad keeps some crunch, and the olives add a saltiness that compliments the hint of honey perfectly. It’s the perfect bite in every bite! ❤️
Thank you for this recipe. It’s a favorite in our household. So easy and so flavorful. Sometimes we add a can of kidney beans for some more protein and call it a meal. The beans add a punch of color, too. thanks again!
Hi Stella (I use your website multiple times a week for recipes 😊)
The green olives….what are they? Spanish olives?
Thanks
Athena
Hi Athena, thanks so much for supporting the website! Glad the recipes resonate with you!
The green olives I use are called Frescatrano green olives.
This is so good! I used the lemon instead of vinegar and thought the honey was the chef’s kiss! Love the combo of sweet and savory. My son has declared this his favorite salad of all time. Great side for pasta with a fresh tomato marinara and toasty bread. Thanks Stella!
Hi thank you for my first Greek recipe. I grew up Greek and they don’t pass down recipes in my family. I absolutely love this cabbage salad it was easy to make. I live near a Greek shop where they sell fresh feta and fresh olives marinated. They have many different versions of olives. I think having different olives made the salad better. I eat a lot of Greek food from church but this salad is so fresh and delicious.
Hi Lisa, I know how you feel. The recipes from my mom are difficult to translate into measurements for the website here. They generally don’t write down recipes except for baked desserts. I’m glad you like this salad though! Enjoy!
