One Pan Creamy Chicken and Rice
The easiest risotto style one pan dish that is velvety smooth, protein and flavor packed.
Please make this. It is beyond yummy and comforting. This gooey delicious all in one dinner is garlicky delicious. It comes out exactly like risotto without all of the work of stirring and pouring, pouring and stirring.
If you are making this for small children, you can leave out the jalapeños and maybe add in some corn, mushrooms, bell pepper or peas. That’s the beauty of this dish, it works with any vegetable.
One Pan Creamy Chicken and Rice
Ingredients
- 2 tbs olive oil
- 1.5 lbs chicken breasts
- garlic powder, onion powder, salt
- 4 tbs butter
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 jalapeños, fine chop
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 3.5 cups low sodium chicken broth
- 2 tsp Italian seasonings
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Cube up your chicken breasts into 1 inch pieces. Season with salt, garlic powder and onion powder to taste.
- In a large deep skillet, heat your olive oil. Toss in the chicken pieces and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Melt your butter in the pan and throw in the onion and jalapeños. Sauté for a minute or two. Add the garlic and stir for 30 seconds.
- Add the rice in and stir for one minute. Mix in the chicken broth, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil, lower heat to a simmer and then cover and cook for 17 -20 minutes – or until rice is done.
- Lastly, stir in the heavy cream and parmesan cheese until creamy.
Notes
Feel free to add in other vegetables when sauteeing the onion and jalapeños. I love this with some mushrooms, bell pepper, peas or asparagus.

hi Stella,
if I need to make this for 8 people? double all ingredient?
HI Frenki, Yes – that would work here! Enjoy!!
So delicious! And the jalapeño adds the perfect kick. Will definitely be making this dish again.
Super tasty! I used jasmine rice and used 2 cups of broth and cooked for 17 minutes. I thought it might still be too wet for the cream but worked out perfectly! Forgot to add mushrooms, but love it regardless. Thanks so much for an easy and delish recipe!
Hi! I tried this. It was delicious!
I used mushrooms because I can’t eat hot peppers. Do you think the rice could be substituted with cauliflower rice?
Hi Lisa, sure it can, less cook time though!
I am going to try this one, I really love your recipes ❤️
Hi Joanne, I hope you do.. its a great and easy recipe! Thank you!!
Εγώ και η οικογένειά μου το αγαπήσαμε!
Bravo!
Made this tonight and absolutely loved it! Just so delicious
Hi Elly! Thank you for taking the time to rate and comment and I’m glad you liked the faux risotto as much as I did!!
Can I use white rice? That’s the only kind I have on hand and I want to make this tonight 🙂
Hi Lauren, Yes of course. The time may be longer and you may need to add more broth and cream. Hope you enjoy!
Thank you!!
yum!! can i use jasmine rice for this?
Hello Iman! Yes, you can definitely use jasmine rice. You may have to adjust cook time and liquid according to the rice brand though. Anything else, just ask! Enjoy the dish!
Can I use Arborio rice instead of basmati?
Cook times will change with Arborio. You will probably need more liquid.
Can’t wait to try this one out!!!
It’s so good! Let me know how you like it!
