Every Greek table needs a flavor packed creamy yogurt sauce!
This tzatziki is the sauce in Greek cuisine you can’t live without. It goes on anything and everything. Its a dip with some pita chips or a topping on your grilled chicken. And the amazing part is that it’s totally healthy and good for you!

Comprised of Greek yogurt, fresh cucumber, red wine vinegar, fresh dill, olive oil, fresh garlic, the absolutely important aspect is that you mix, and then taste to make sure there is enough salt, vinegar etc. Another crucial step is to let the sauce sit in your fridge for at least 30 minutes prior to consumption. This is necessary for the flavors of all of the ingredients to meld and come together. You mustn’t rush perfection!

Easy Greek Tzatziki Sauce
Ingredients
Instructions
- Gently pat the cucumber shreds with paper towel to absorb as much liquid as possible, but you still want the cucumber to have some moisture to it.
- In a resealable container, mix the yogurt, dill, oil, garlic, red wine vinegar and salt to taste.ย Lastly fold in the cucumber until combined. ย Taste the tsatziki and adjust anything if needed.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
This is a great recipe. Everything you said and your instruction are right on!

As A teacher, I love knowing that recent scientific brain imaging shows as we creatively adjust recipes (to suit personal tastes/dietary needs or what we have on hand) our entire brain lights up like fireworks (similar to when creating artwork, dance, sports strategies, sew/needlework.) Thank you for doing the hard work, communicating so clearly and inspiring us โฃ๏ธ
So yummy! I hadn’t seen a recipe for tzatziki with red wine vinegar as the acid – only lemon juice. So, I was a little skeptical, but we loved it. My husband says this is one of the best sauce recipes I’ve made since I really started getting into cooking a few years ago. I left out the dill, since we don’t love it, and it was still incredible – in case anyone is wondering.
perfect + my Greek kids like it!
I have a lot of cucumbers from my garden so Iโm very excited to try this recipe. Can it be frozen?
I found this recipe on TikTok, and I have never had a more delicious tzatziki! It’s quick, easy and delicious!
Hi Marina, i’m so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for the kind message!
where does the cheese come into the recipe
Very Good sauce! I made only half a recipe and had enough extra for another 4 lunches using it as dressing. So fresh and yummy. My husband even liked it and he is not sure that he even likes Greek stuff! LOL Reviewed and made on my Famished Farm YouTube channel.
I finally have a recipe similar to my motherโs that includes measurements! Thank you Stella.
I love this tzatziki recipe, I make it all the time, itโs a family favorite! Thank you! All your recipes are wonderful!
Hi Stella..
I have to remind you that this sauce is not originally Greek. You have copied from Turkish cuisine. As always you hVe copied more dishes from us.And the name oroginally in Turkish is CACฤฐK .This belongs to Turkish cuisine.See you have also copied the name from us:).you just added a letter..:) And you know you can’t do the same so you tried to add vinegar to the sauce. No in original it is homemade yoghurt +Olive oil +garlic +salt and we use dried peppermint not dill ๐ You need to have changed it otherwise it will be Cacฤฑk.But the main ingredients belongs to Turkish Cuisine not Greek.
Or… you could just calm down and realise that there are many foods that have traversed the land and then adapted by locals to what they had, what they liked, and what was readily available.
Yes, perhaps Cacik was the “original”. But then Tzatziki was born due to the fact that Greeks had more dill and cucumbers, and experimented with the “original”, and discovered that to their palates, and their climate, tzatziki was a better flavour than peppermint, which may have been hard to come by / expensive / not as appreciated.
So just go with the flow. Appreciate that we all experiment with food ingredients to create flavours that work for us, inspired by, copied from, based on, or exactly copied.
Food is to be enjoyed, shared, and savoured. Not to be fought over.
Excellent comment, David! : ) Totally correct, as well!

Well Stated !! So nice to see someone has an educated approach to constructive critism w/ o the need to be rude.
Thanks for your imput.
yes!!
Thank you David for expressing very nicely what we’re all thinking. Most every country in the Mediterranean basin has a recipe similar to the Turkish Cacik with some small differences.
Hello, I’m sorry to see that you feel the need to be so negative about a yogurt sauce that every country around the Mediterranean basin has a recipe for. I don’t think that you acted as a grown or respectful person… ๐
This Tzatziki sauce is so, so good! I made it to go with the Chicken Gyro and it was delicious. My husband is such a fan of you now and wants me to make more greek dishes. (He was using it for a dip for his tortilla chips too!)
It is originally Turkish .The main ingredients of Cacฤฑk(Turkish original name pronounced very similiar) Homemade yoghurt+ garlic+salt+olive oil+dry peppermint
Turkish not Greek.
The tzatziki was delicious! Perfect texture and taste. Ate it with your pita (3 ingredient pita recipe) which is our family favorite and chicken, roasted red peppers and hummus, everyone loved it! Thank you for this wonderful recipe!!!
Super delicious sauce! could eat it by the large spoon full. Making Kufta on pita later and expect it to be over the top as well. Thank you so much for your videos and passion for what you do. Know your Grandmother is super proud of you!!
Delicious, so much better then store bought and so easy to make, thank you!!
