Easy Baked Cabbage Alfredo
This is an unexpected cabbage side dish you will make time and again.
This creamy dish is giving serious pasta Alfredo vibes minus the carbs. We couldn’t stop eating it and I just kept making it all week long. Did I mention its just toss in the pan and go. The prep work was so simple and I loved it!

Easy Baked Cabbage Alfredo
Equipment
- 9×13 baking dish
Ingredients
- 1 small green cabbage, cored + sliced into thick strips, then halved
- 1 large shallot, sliced
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp DanO's Spicy Seasoning (or chili powder)
- salt and pepper to taste
- 8 tbs heavy cream
- 2 tbs salted butter, cut into 4 pieces
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350℉.
- To a 9×13 inch baking dish transfer your cabbage pieces, spread out the shallot slices, then sprinkle evenly with garlic powder, chili powder, salt and pepper to taste. Pour over the heavy cream evenly and top with the pats of butter. Cover the dish tightly and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and mix everything. It might look watery but sauce will thicken. Serve with sauce and extra freshly cracked black pepper.
can I use Vidalia onion instead of shallot? Thank you!
Hi Laurie, absolutely!
I like this would love to add chicken and use ragu Alfredo sauce as a short cut
Hi Wendy, sounds like a solid plan to me!
so easy to make and delicious to eat. I added Cayenne pepper instead of chilli powder. Will definitely make again and be passing it onto friends.
Looks great but I can’t try it till I see the nutritional info. Ketosis is hard to get into and stay so I have to have the macros.
Sounds delicious! I have a dairy free individual in the house. I wonder if it would just ruin this if it was made with coconut cream and coconut oil?? This may not be the recipe to convert to dairy free but just wondering your thoughts?
HI Mary, i think it would work great with coconut cream and oil!
any nutrition information for this? sounds amazing!
Sounded just weird enough that I had to give it a try. Much to my surprise, it was SO dang delicious. Great as a side dish for sure. Might need to add a protein to file this in the main dish category for me. I made it just as written and it was perfect. Well, maybe except that I have no idea what Dano’s Spicy Seasoning is, but I had plenty of similar mixed seasoning options in the pantry to choose from. I think even straight Season-All would work! This recipe is super budget friendly and whips together in no time.
yummy
I am making this for the second time. My husband absolutely loves this. This time I’m going to add in some broccoli and grilled chicken.
This really does taste like an Alfredo sauce without the cheese. Love it! Thank you for sharing!
I’ve made this twice and it’s absolutely delicious and super easy.
HI Julia, thanks so much for the kind feedback!
Hi Stella
I made this last night and ate it with a lettuce wrapped burger. I loved it! I halved the recipe and adjusted the ingredients accordingly. It was delicious! Thank you!
HI Anita, that’s awesome! I love the way you used it!
I added Asiago cheese to it, not a big fan of parm. and it was delicious. I like cooked cabbage especially with butter & cream. I forgot the onions but I doubled the garlic being Italian it’s just a habit. I love to watch what you do I cook like you everyday. My Nono would be happy.
Hi Francine, that’s so awesome! I love to hear it! Thank you for the sweet messsage!
sounds delicious. I would like to try and lighten it up maybe using 1/2 cream and 1/2 Greek yogurt
Hi Lynn, its worth a try! But its really not that much heavy cream to begin with.
Although the correct name for this recipe should be scalloped cabbage because it’s not alfredo without parmesan cheese, converting it to Alfredo is super simple. Because I had never thought of preparing cabbage this way when searching for different ideas, I want to thank you for this recipe that I can use to turn into Alfredo. I’m sure it’s also tasty without the parmesan. Thank you.
Hi Taren, You have a point but one can easily add in the grated parmesan here as a garnish too!
I’m glad you liked the recipe overall! Cheers!
Thanks. I was wondering about the absence of the cheese.
I’m not into cabbage at all but I’m more averse to throwing good food out. I had half a cabbage in the refrigerator that a friend gave to me and saw this recipe. Very easy, perfect measurements and totally rich and delicious. I had it as a side with the zucchini lasagne bake another HH recipe that’s awesome. Yum!
Hi Simone, Glad you took the chance and tried the recipe! Thank you for the kind feedback!
