Easy Cottage Cheese Chocolate Chip Cookies
These yummy cookies are easy to make and high in protein so bring on seconds!
I saw these cottage cheese cookies on EatingBirdFood.com and knew I had to try them! There are made with only 7 ingredients, high in protein and turned out so delicious! Yes, they are kid approved too!
I really enjoyed the vanilla protein powder in this recipe because it adds flavor AND extra protein to the recipe! So if you don’t have vanilla protein powder, you can sub in oat flour or more almond flour. I would also add a tablespoon more maple syrup to account for the change of flavor as well.

Cottage Cheese Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1/4 cup maple syrup (or honey)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup almond flour
- 1/2 cup vanilla protein powder
- 2 tbs coconut oil, melted
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350℉ Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a small food processor or blender, add the cottage cheese, maple syrup and vanilla – pulse until smooth. Transfer that mixture to a large bowl and mix with the almond flour, protein powder and coconut oil until combined. Lastly fold in the chocolate chips. Best to use a cookie scooper to form. your balls. Place them on the baking sheet and press down to flatten. Add some more chocolate to the tops (if you like) and bake until the edges are golden brown – about 13-15 minutes. Allow them to set on the baking sheet for a few minutes then transfer to a cooling rack.
Notes
I use 4 % milk fat cottage cheese – the brand is Organic Valley.
If you don’t have vanilla protein powder, you can sub in oat flour (or more almond flour and a few tbs coconut flour).
You can use any neutral oil, like avocado oil or olive oil instead of the coconut oil.

🙁
I am thinking about subbing sugar free maple syrup. THAT MIGHT help. It isn’t as “clean” as using a natural, nutrative sweetener though.
Mine turned out great. I added an egg because we are not vegan, added a little extra flour and protein powder for texture and refrigerated the dough. May try to add some PB powder or extra sweetener next time- for more flavor.
Hi Andrea, thanks so much for trying them out! Glad they worked for you!
I just made them tonight. They were pretty yummy! It’s a good recipe: easy and quick. I’ll making them again. I wonder if I could put fruit in them and make muffins…
Hi Caroline, sounds like a great idea! And thanks for trying out the recipe!
just wondering what kind of protein power you use. I just made these cookies and they are flatter than a pancake.
Hi Heather, I use Sprout Living protein powder. I will link it below:

This is the first of HH recipes I haven’t really loved. the dough was very wet – not like in the video, so I added extra protein and some oat flour, and let it rest a while to thicken. The twang of the cottage cheese wasn’t great either. I put them in the fridge – they’re better cold than warm or at room temp.
Really good cookies! Great easy recipe. Thank you!
Hi Kelly, i’m so glad you liked the cookies! Thanks for the kind feedback!
Lovely 😊
Thanks!
These are very good and easy to make. I added chopped pecans and used my air fryer to bake.
Hi Sara, that sounds delicious! Thanks for trying the recipe!
what can we use as a substitute for the protein powder?
oat flour works insted!
could I make without the protein powder?
Hi Cindy, you can sub in oat flour or regular flour
Can I use oat flour instead of almond flour?
Hi Lauren, it should work – I haven’t tried it with this recipe but it should work!
Any substitutions for the coconut oil? I don’t have any and I wonder if I have something in my pantry that would be a good sub? Thank you in advance!
Hi Abby, Any neutral oil works here like avocado oil or olive oil!
Great cookie to make in advance as gifts, treats for host, or a nutritious snack when want healthy ones. Thank you 😊
Hi Patricia, I’m so happy you liked the recipe! Thanks for the kind message!
Do you think I could use chocolate protein powder?
Hi Carolyn, I would use that here yes!
These are super easy and very good! I doubled the recipe and got 3 dozen cookies. The texture was obviously a bit different due to the almond flour but otherwise really good!
Hi Ellen, i ‘m so glad you liked the recipe! Thanks for trying them out!
I tried this recipe but my cookies came out all runny 🙁
Hi Andrea, i’m so sorry the recipe didn’t work out for you! If you try them again, add a bit more almond flour or protein powder to firm them up!
